Sri Lanka is a blend of Tropical Splendour and a rich cultural heritage is known to the world as the "pearl" of the Indian Ocean.

SRI LANKA, formerly CEYLON island republic, Located 29 kilometers off the south eastern tip of the Indian subcontinent, Member of the Commonwealth of Nations. 

Sri Lanka is separated from India by the Palk Strait and Gulf of Mannar.
Rebel groups have made repeated calls for a separate Tamil state, and political assassinations are relatively common. Despite the violence, Sri Lanka is also known as a deeply spiritual and beautiful place, rich in exotic flora and fauna.

Sri Lanka is divided into nine provinces and 24 administrative districts. Each province is headed by an appointed minister.

Less than one-quarter of Sri Lanka's population lives in urban communities. Most of the foreign trade of the island is routed through Colombo, and the city has been an important fuelling station for ships that pass through the Suez Canal.

Buddhism, which was introduced into Sri Lanka in the 3rd century BC, is the prevailing faith. As practiced in Sri Lanka, Buddhism also exhibits elements of both Hindu and Islamic traditions

In Sri Lanka schooling is compulsory for children from 5 to 15 years of age. Free education to the university level is provided by the state. 

All three Sinhala, English, Tamil languages are official languages and Sinhala is spoken by more than 80 percent of the population. Tamil, a Dravidian language of southern India, is spoken by people living in the northern and eastern provinces. English is  widely used in day to day activities and business's...ect.
